aren't they lovely?
these past few weeks, i have been working on the personality of captive animals for one of my modules. it's one of the rare assignments that have gotten me hooked. every tutorial was a bliss and cracking my brains for it was a joy. the end of that module's just around the corner, this friday to be specific. once i hand up that report, it'll be on to another new module with a new boring topic on endocrine disruptors.
the tutorials ended in a nice way for this module. we gave our presentations on our individual topic and everybody was happy with everyone else's work. i liked my presentation and so did my classmates and tutor. the best of it came after the tutorial when my tutor asked to speak to me. he asked me if i was genuinely interested in the topic i was working on, captive animals and their personality. i panicked a little and my heart beat twice as fast. did i sound like i was not interested in what i was doing in my presentation? why was he doubting my interests? did i not do well enough? was i lacking in some area of my research? i affirmed my interest in the topic.
he then proceeded to tell me that he's going to be applying for a student grant for a research on tasmanian devils in captivity. this time my heart was beating Thrice as fast. then he asked if i was interested in working with him on the project. HELL YEAH!!!! at this point in time if my heart was to beat any faster, i would have just collapsed.
so there... my potential honours project, supervisor and research grant! i see the light...
of course, nothing's solid yet at this point in time. honours is still some time away. i still have to get through the rest of this year and next year. but to me, it doesn't really matter whether it works out or not. even if i eventually don't get to do honours or to work with him or to work on that project, i'm still very happy he asked me! that means a lot to me. it's a great confidence booster.
nonetheless, i still hope it works out. working on tasmanian devils in captivity, behaviour and personality... yup! i can see myself doing that for an entire year. definitely!
(btw, you know how they say pets resemble their owners? well, we've kinda found a resemblance between researchers and their research animals too. so do you think there's any sort of resemblance between me and the tassie devils? hmm... garang-don't-get-in-the-way-of-me-and-my-food kinda personality. yeah i think that much we're alike!)
