sweet joy

i received wonderful news couple of days back from a pal i have known since we were 7.
he and his girl are having plans to get married next year and he's planning to propose soon. we were talking about his proposal plans and i can just feel the nerves and excitement. imagine how HE must be feeling.

just as i am about to get used to my girlfriends (around my age group) getting engaged/married/applying for flat... here comes a guy friend my age who's gonna get married. it brings the game to another level altogether. the reality of the next phase of life is creeping up even closer now. news like that sends my heart a flutter and i secretly wish my time would come soon too. but at the same time, i don't know how ready i am to face that whole new chapter. darn i just feel old. i feel like i'm gonna be ancient in 6 years time. however, i want it to happen when i'm ready to spend my entire lifetime with the other and not because i feel the pressure to.

anyway, back to my pal. we knew each other as little kids. everytime we hang out, i still see a 7-12 year old kid (with a grown up life) and i feel like a little kid too. soon, he's gonna be a married kid! feels a little like how we used to play "family" back in primary school. we've got daddy and mummy and everybody else were siblings. except of course... this is gonna be for real. in the near future, "gatherings" with the primary school gang would be at weddings. there's this excitement and great joy i feel for him that i don't quite know how to express. knowing and growing with a person and then seeing that person find his love and make the decision of spending his lifetime with her. it's a big thing. feel so happy for him that it made me tear a little.

from the tender age of 7 to the leap into adulthood
from a naive little child to finding the love of his life
from recess time to a wedding
it's just been a blink of an eye.
