the fruitful weekend
i haven't had such a social weekend in the longest time. not sure if it's age catching up to me but as fun as it was this past weekend, it was also exhausting. i can't do the long days and late nights anymore (10+pm is late, that's my bedtime).this past weekend, my friend Jillian and her sister Laura came up from down under. Ben, Eileen and myself got to be tour guides for a bit. the weekend plans included going to the national museum, sungei buloh wetland reserve, esplanade and lots of eating!
when it comes to eating, they are by far the most adventurous people i've ever met. whatever you place in front of them, exotic as it may be, they'll put it in their mouths with no hesitation. their first meal, before we eve met them, consisted of pig intestines noodles and durian pancake. their own choice. i was impressed.
we had a fruit party at Eileen's place... durian, mangosteens, rambutans, jackfruit, jumbu and guava. they like them all including the durians. their favourites were the mangosteens and rambutans. they tried bird's nest as well but they didn't quite like it after we told them how it came about (from the swallows' spit and all). we told them it's good for their complexion though.
later on we went to the esplanade and Laura came up with a pretty innovative story with the origin of bird's nest and the merlion. She said that maybe the merlion isn't just vomiting water but rather using its saliva to build a huge nest for all of Singapore so we can all have beautiful complexion. never heard of that version before. heh.
had early starts and came home late on both days. the combination of the heat, the heaty fruits and the exhaustion from all the walking was no good at all. i fell sick and could not join them for dinner yesterday before they leave to go up to Malaysia.
i enjoyed the weekend though. it was great to see Jill again and to spend time with them. =)
